Set in the end of June, 1941.
It had already been one (or maybe it was two, but he'd lost count) since the last series of German bombs rained down on London. There hadn't been much time to clear up the streets so nearly all of the rubble caused by the devastation remained. Many civilians still wandered the filthy streets in an attempt to locate shelter or family members. That was probably the hardest part to watch in Arthur's opinion. To see the children roam aimlessly with scared looks in their eyes as they called out to their dead parents only to never receive an answer... To watch as people sat in the empty doorways (which were often the only thing left standing of a fallen building) and stare blankly ahead, their expressions clearly showing their own sense of helplessness...
Oh he knew that they were strong-willed fighters his people; he knew that all too well from having seen them through centuries of wars. They always remained fierce, head held high. But this time Arthur wasn't too sure if they could get through this... So many innocent people had died; so much was destroyed. He knew this by the many lingering wounds on his body. Bruises, cuts, gashes, burns. These were the scars of his people, of his country. Arthur still felt every one of them with the upmost keenness. But underneath that he sensed the growing resentment of the British people; to this war, to their government. They couldn't fight in this war. They were in no way ready to jump back into fighting after this. Besides, without America joining the war, the allied cause seemed lost...
Staring out the window of his London house's bedroom, Britain had the perfect view of what used to be the beautiful capital. How long would it take to rebuild all of this almost from the ground up? From zero, with barely anything left to be based on? Pressing a hand to his heart (which still hurt from time to time), Arthur closed his eyes and tried to hold his emotions together.

New Zealand had heard about what had happened. She couldn't believe it until she saw it. New Zealand was worried sick, that being and understatement. To her England seemed next to invinsible however she was wrong. This gave her a very mortal feeling. Who would be next that she cared about? What if she was next? She felt as if she swollowed her heart. She gazed back a bit at the group of soldiers that she had brought. She then gazed back to the city that was in ruble.
She wondered where England was. She hoped he was okay. Kura quickly closed her eyes pulling herself together before she broke out in a worried rampage. "Go help the people. Give them water and food or help them find their families." she instructed. They immidietly did. As they passed her she looked at their faces. They all looked either horrified or worried. They must be feeling the same way she did. 'I need to speak with England.' She thought to herself as she began down the street to the dirrection of England's house.
After she saw the house in sight she began to break into a run. She didn't hesitate knocking when she got to the door. She slammed it open cuaught up in the worry. "England!" she called looking around for him. 'Maybe he's out helping someone...' she slowly walked into the house looking around checking the kitchen and then moving along to the hall way. "England?"

Breathe. Just breathe old chap and calm down.
No matter how much he so badly wanted to do exactly that, Arthur couldn't seem to calm himself. He merely wanted to curl up in bed and cry, much like he'd been doing over the last few days. But this wasn't like him; this was not Arthur Kirkland, personification of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, center of the all mighty British Empire. He'd always been the one to be able to think rationally in the middle of a crisis. That fact had not changed for centuries. But horrible wars changed people and countries... And by far this war had been nothing but horror and bloodshed.
Sighing, Britain let himself collapse weakly in the chair located near the window and simply continued to stare aimlessly outside. The thick Grey clusters of clouds seemed to foretell the arrival of a possible rainstorm. At least that hadn't changed...
Suddenly, a loud commotion downstairs made Arthur jumps slightly in his seat before he hear someone call his name. Curious because he recognized the voice but not its owner, the green-eyed nation pushed himself up with a little difficulty and walked slowly to the doorway of his bedroom. He gripped the frame to keep his balance and leaned out to spot who was his guess as the unknown person made their way up the stairs.

New Zealand continued down the hall puasing at a window and gazing out at the soldiers that she had brought who seemed to be doing their best to help the citizens in any way they could. She was glad that they were willing to do this. Yet they kind of had too. New Zealand felt without England that they would be in some danger. She felt like she had to help him...she wanted to help him.
Kura continued on being cuatious. It had occured to her that someone else may be in the building too. 'What if they wont let England out?' she asked her self. She was begining to get very worried now. She quicked her pace being a little less carless now keepiing one hand ready to grab her gun that she had hidden on her person.
She puased when she saw England. A worried yet relieved look swpet across her face. She was slightly confused as to why he didn't come when she called. Then again she walked in without knocking. Usually most people would be very angry and probably yell. But could this case be excused since she thought something terrible had happened to England? She let out a sigh filled with worry and she threw her arms around him pulling him into a tight protective hug. "England," she whispered. "I'm so sorry..." Was that the only thing she could think of saying. 'i'm sorry.' Why was she sorry in the first place? Perhaps because she couldn't have came any sooner. Perhaps she thought that she could have protected him. If only she saw this coming. She didn't think anyone would be able to hurt England or even think about hurting him. "I could have helped you sooner," she told him. "I should have helped you sooner...I'm sorry."

Britain was surprised to see New Zealand. Why had he not been warned that one of his dominions was coming to London? He was by no means proper for company at the moment...
Arthur felt slightly annoyed at his ministers for this awkward situation but it couldn't be helped. They had said a few days before that they wanted him to rest and recover as much as possible for a while, so they would handle all of his meetings and work. Thus it was the reason why he was stuck here in his home when he'd rather by outside helping with the clean up.
But before Arthur could ask why she was here, Kura suddenly hugged him tightly. Caught off guard, the older nation tried very hard not to groan out loud as his friend accidentally squeezed some of his healing wounds. But after a somewhat shaky breath, Arthur managed to hug New Zealand back. Though the real surprise came when Kura started whispering apologies to him.
Confused, Arthur pulled the girl away from him gently and looked her in the eyes. "By all means, why are you apologizing New Zealand? This is in no way your fault..." He glanced away, his chest suddenly feeling tight.
"If anything, it was my fault for not seeing it coming after the battle of France..."

Kura frowned a bit at England wondering how she could help. She never thought that this would happen. Like stated before...To New Zealand...England was England. She never thought anyone would consider hurting him. She certainly wouldn't consider it herself. "You've been there for me when I needed it. I should have been here when you needed it." She explained to him lowering her gaze.
"I should have been paying more closer attention..." She told him. New Zealand was so far away though. On some maps she was even forgotten and instead of a little place where she should be there was just an ocean as if she didn't exist. However she was there and sometimes being so icolated could help her. It would be difficult for anyone to get to her. "I could have helped you but I didn't..." She added.
New Zealand was here now though. Perhaps he could help him for the next few days? That would make her at least feel a little better. Especially if they could help the citizens of London as well get up long enough to start building their lives again. "It wont happen again though." She told him. "I'll be here for you..." She would stay as long as he needed some help. She was determined and really hoped he wouldn't say no. She finally met his eyes and offered a reasuring smile.

Feeling touched by her words, Arthur lightly squeezed Kura's shoulder and gave her what he hoped was a reassuring smile.
"Don't worry yourself over this. What was done is done. I appreciate all the help you can give my people, but I myself am okay." It wasn't the whole truth, but the female nation didn't need to know what Britain's actual feelings towards the current situation were right now. Truth be told, Arthur wasn't sure what he was feeling...
The green-eyed nation suddenly realized that he was getting tired from standing for so long, so gently taking New Zealand's hand he said, "Where are my manners? Please come sit in the study where it's more comfortable and we may have some tea." He then quietly lead her to the aforementioned room, but his earlier dark thoughts aside.

New Zealand stared at him for a long moment and frowned. "Are you sure?" She asked tilting her head narrowing her eyes slightly. "I can stay for a few days just to make sure if you want." It was mostly to reasure herself that he would be okay. It wasn't that she didn't believe him. She was just so worried about him. This was England for pete sake! He wasn't just some random country. She'd want to help that random country but she was still England's domain. She would be worried about something like this with anyone. But when it was someone she cared about this much she'd lose a lot of sleep over it.
New Zealand smiled when he took her hand. She squeezed it slightly and followed him into his study. She was glad she could spend some time withe England. Maybe that was one way to help the both of them? Just spending as much time together as possible. She had a feeling with the war going on that would be difficult. They'd both be very busy. She also knew that war changed the cuntries and this war was worse then World War I. How would it change them this time?
"I should have brought some Lolly cake," She thought out loud. She always loved to make the little treats. She found them nice. But she was in such a rush and she hadn't even tried thinking about what state England would be in. She just wanted to make sure he was okay!
