PERSONALITY:
Blank. Stoic. Unemotional. Unaffected. These are the words anyone would use when describing the nation, and with good reason. Living near one of the poles, the Nordic's weather seems to go perfectly with his personality. Norway is not the kind to show excitement, happiness, nervousness, disappointment, or any other kind of emotion for that matter. Only in extreme cases or when he is truly caught off guard, is when he will show even a hint of what he is really thinking. Extreme cases mean in the face of huge emergencies, surprises, or times when it's just impossible for him to be neutral about something. This is rare though, so often he faces the world with a bored gaze that sometimes intimidates the strongest of people coupled with the fact that the nation also chooses to use his works sparingly. Mysterious can be another word used, although this one doesn't last very long as soon the Nordic's personality becomes very apparent just through his words and actions.
But of course, there are also some that the nation holds in high esteem. If he's comfortable around someone, he can actually be a bit chatty, moving from phrases and one-word answers to being more joking and teasing instead of the snappy and sarcastic tone how he is with those he doesn't care for at all. Be careful though, as the Nordic's humor is somewhat dark and sometimes one can't be sure if he's kidding or not. (But it's obvious to hear his change in voice; with sarcasm, it is painfully obvious and he doesn't hide a smidge of his bitterness, but with joking around, his tone is considerably lighter. As long as he's not glaring at you, you can be assured he's only kidding.) Friends and companions of the Norwegian know this about him already, so he will hold back less when it comes to his teasing. An outside person looking into the conversation might be surprised at what he says, but friends are used to it and more often then not will simply joke around back.
To those he is really close to, Norway is much more different. Around these select few, he is more expressive, if only just a little. Annoyance will be met with a slight scowl, happiness with a content expression and small smile, sadness with a strained silence and slumped shoulders, anger with a piercing glare at anything that moves, and nervousness with fidgeting shown only when he's around those he knows well. Then again, there are also certain emotions and such that he prefers never to show, not even to his close ones. Affection for example, one of the few things that break his blanked-faced barrier, is likely to be met with a blush and some 'angry' snapping, and he forgets he's trying to stay unreadable. (But if the affection is unwanted, the Norwegian will quickly take on a stern tone of voice and promptly tell the other to stop it.)
.. However, with recent German occupation, things have been going very poorly for the Nordic. With the Germanic country now the only available trading partner, resources in Norway's country have been dropping, leading to the risk of famine. Also due to the current situation, many of his people have been leaving, including his own king, who is now in exile in Britain. What does all this have to do with personality? A lot. Even around close ones, Norway's been acting more shut-out and quiet, untrusting of everyone (Germany's attack was a surprise that caught him off guard, he's also upset he couldn't predict such a thing). The other Nordics are the only ones he may really say anything to- however, he still refuses to complain, and insists nothing is wrong when asked. His stubbornness and disallows him to ask for a lot of help, and while this is somewhat of a bad thing, it's also a clear sign that Norway is no where near giving up completely.
